Tragic Misconceptions of Often Used Ingredients
Salmon / Salmon Oil
95% of salmon and salmon oil found in dog food is farmed, which means it's loaded with antibiotics and hormones and swimming in very dirty conditions. As if that weren't enough, the meat and oil are more often than not 'animal grade': the parts of the salmon humans throw away.
Flax Seed
When flax seed is ground into a powder, the flax oil in the seed, which is highly unstable, is exposed to the air, and is quickly oxidized, rendering it toxic. Flax oil must never be cooked. Animals and people should only eat whole, or freshly ground and uncooked flax seed.
Canola / Corn / Soy Oil
Whether in food or oil form, these 3 are genetically modified 95% of the time. GMO foods are linked to gut microbiome dysbiosis, allergies, and inflammation and should not be eaten.
Dog's Supplements
Most supplements are made with synthetic vitamins which are poorly absorbed and tax the kidneys. NOTHING is better absorbed than superfoods. They are rich in vitamins/minerals, are easily broken down and are food as medicine.
Garlic
Years ago big-food did a study on garlic toxicity on dogs. They fed large amounts of garlic to dogs and of course, it was toxic. Because everything is toxic in the wrong amount. Garlic is as much a panacea for you as it is for your dog. It also keeps infection, fleas, ticks and parasites at bay. Just don't consume a whole bulb every day.
Chicken
Today's chicken is pumped full of hormones so they can reach enough weight and be slaughtered around 7 weeks of age. For a chicken to gain so much weight that fast, they have lights on 24 hrs a day so it eats nonstop and doesn't sleep. They give them antibiotics because this environment causes disease. Unless you know who grows your chicken, it's best to stay away from it. Pasture raised and/or organic is a little better, but not by much.
Dry Kibble
Stop the kibble! It stresses your dog's organs, it's highly inflammatory and it's hard to digest which packs on the weight. 99% of dry dog food is extruded: a process that cooks and shapes ingredients at very high heat and pressure, forcing it through a die to form the kibble shape. This makes the food shelf stable but this process causes cancer and denatures fats and nutrients, forcing them to add synthetic vitamins to compensate for the loss,
